Welcome to Butturini’s Martial Arts America Knoxville’s #1 Karate Academy since 1978

You are now preparing to take your first Introductory Private Lesson at Martial Arts America. You have a great and wonderful experience ahead. The staff and instructors at Martial Arts America look forward to working with you.

The following is a little information to guide you in your first steps in training at our academy.

“Why Karate at Butturini’s Martial Arts America?”

Karate training at Butturini’s Martial Arts America is one of the best activities you or your child could ever participate in. Let’s do a simple comparison. Keep in mind that most extracurricular activities have some benefit. Karate is simply the best.

Team Sports

Baseball, football, basketball, soccer, etc. are great team activities. They teach teamwork, improve physical skills and provide some level of character building, usually reserved for the winners or stars.

Team sports are usually taught, except at the elite levels, by volunteers. These volunteers are usually parents of kids on the team. The level of instruction can vary greatly depending on the coach and his/her goals and agendas.

Some team sports have simply lost their way. It is not unusual to have police officers assigned to ball fields to control parents, coaches, and to protect the volunteer referees.

Individual Activities

Dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, etc. are also great activities and usually occur in a much more controlled environment. The level of instruction can be very high depending on the teacher/coach. As a matter of fact my friend and neighbor, Mike Taturu, runs an amazing high quality gymnastics and cheerleading facility.

The skills learned in gymnastics can greatly enhance an individual's Martial Arts skills.

The main drawback to these activities is that the teacher/coach is looking for a great performer, athlete, or star.

Many of these activities determine a child’s Olympic/Star ability by the age of four.

Karate at Butturini’s Martial Arts America

We believe that every student has the ability to not only become a Black Belt, but a Black Belt Champion in life.

While learning valuable self-defense skills, students become more flexible, faster, stronger, better coordinated, and well rounded as an individual.

The Character building traits taught in our Black Belt Success System are second to none. The discipline, focus, manners, and dedication that are taught to every student prepare them to excel in every activity they undertake.

Simply put “Nothing beats Karate training at Martial Arts America.”

“Why choose Butturini’s Martial Arts America?”

There are many reasons to choose our academy; large open training facility, fun and positive family atmosphere, modern state of the art equipment and training floor, no testing or belt fees, but most of all it is our staff.

Chief Instructor

Master Robert Butturini is a 5th Degree Black Belt who has been training since the age of four and teaching since he was 14. His passion for Martial Arts led to victories in some of the nation’s largest Karate tournaments, a six time Tennessee State Karate Champion, and an undefeated record in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.

His passion for his personal training is reflected in the patience and care that he gives to his students.

Assistant Instructors

The assistant instructors have all came up through the Martial Arts America ranks and Instructor Certification program. All of our instructors are real Martial Artists, not salesmen turned teacher or someone hired off the streets or from another school. They are all “home grown”.

Grandmaster

Grandmaster Jack Butturini is a 7th Degree Black Belt holding Black Belts in four different styles of Martial Arts. He is also a Purple Belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and was the first Tennessee Master Instructor to achieve rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the legendary Rickson Gracie. A seven time International Karate Champion, winner of over 200 Karate tournaments, a certified Te Geri Kickboxing coach, an undefeated Kickboxing competitor, Master Butturini is arguably Knoxville’s, if not Tennessee’s, most well-rounded Master Instructor.

Considered by his peers as a pioneer in modern Martial Arts, Master Butturini still actively teaches class and is involved with all aspects of Instructor and Staff training at Martial Arts America.
